Cot-Effective Maintenance Survey Using Electrical Infrared Los Angeles

By Coleen Torres

One of the main reasons behind fire hazard is the electrical connections or appliances. The most effective method for predictive maintenance is system scanning using electrical infrared Los Angeles. It is always preferable to go for preventive maintenance components get damaged or fail.

Since failure in circuits or systems and installations mostly are the reasons behind fire and other catastrophic hazards, nobody likes to compromise on the preventive maintenance cost of these systems. The infrared camera helps take images of all the defective connections and components in your system.

For conduction of current through a wire, all one needs is to apply voltage at the terminals. If the amount of current flow is same but resistance in the conductor increases, it dissipates more power which converts to heat energy. The conductor then heats up and cause failure.

If unattended, the components may fail and get damaged. In preventive maintenance, the images of the hot spots are detected and corresponding temperatures are measured using the infrared cameras. The reported temperature values are then analyzed by experienced thermographers who suggest maintenance.

Questions may arise about why only some of the connections get hot. The connections heat up only when the resistance increases, but there may be many reasons behind this increase. It may happen due to aging of the component, loose connection, poor installation, fatigue, oxidation, or wear.

The infrared electrical survey, therefore, can save both time and money. It also reduces the risk factors associated with a malfunctioning unit. Unattended faults not only create component failures, but they may lead to fire hazards or other catastrophic failures. There are plenty of examples of how the losses of life and property due to catastrophic failures have damaged industrial development.

The inspection or survey can also detect open circuits, overloads, defects, inductive heating, and unbalanced loads. The survey has another major advantage over other preventive maintenance processes. The plant doesn't need to be shut down during the infrared survey, so it detects the defects only while the component is active.

The survey is very cost-effective since it can detect all the probable weak points in the system quickly and efficiently. Once diagnosed, the points may be repaired based on the recommendations before they cause further damage or failure that would undoubtedly waste a lot of time and money. Although a costly test, annual surveys are preferable to a complete renovation due to negligent failure.

Planned shutdowns are generally organized for most of the general industrial preventive maintenance measures. Planned shutdowns undoubtedly lead to production losses but are necessary with some types of maintenance. However, infrared scanning requires absolutely no shutdown during the entire survey.

The electrical system in any organization includes the transformers, sub-feed panels, distribution panels, bus ducts, motor control centers, variable frequency drivers, etc. All these components can be scanned properly using the infrared electrical scanners. The resulting scanning report helps improve the health of the entire system.
