Find A Good Active Directory Password Reset Option

By Lessie Kaufman

Everyone that works from a computer will eventually be notified that a new password is needed as the last one is about to expire. This can cost businesses millions of dollars every year as it cuts into normal everyday routines. Using the Active Directory Password Reset it will cut down on time wasted.

When typing in a password there are certain requirements that are needed. The longer and more difficult it is the better as the security settings of each computer will determine if they are accepted or not. Each of them must preferably not have the full name of the account or person in it. To add security it should not be less than three characters, many prefer to have at least 12 and also include capitals and numbers.

An appointed help desk technician will be able to import all the users that need to have everything reset from a CSV file. This is short for "comma separated value" which helps to save all data in a table of structured formats. This is normal spreadsheet but has an extra extension, the CSV. It can also be a normal text file that is separated by a comma as well as any character and is normally used in Microsoft.

To reset a Windows password one will need to make sure whether it is a domain, workgroup or a home group. This is just a different way of organizing everything on a network. All computers that run on a home network are normally part of a workgroup while those in a workplace normally run as part of a domain.

If the information one is using already has commas try adding one's own delimiter, this could be a space or even a tab. Once finalized click on File and choose Save As. At the Save as line click on the CSV option. The same goes for Office Calc but instead click on the Text CSV option.

Those that belong to a home network need to be on a workgroup but are allowed to belong to a home group as well. This generally allows friends and families to share pictures, documents as well as music and videos. One such program that does this is Dropbox and is used by millions all over the world, not only for home use but for the work place as well. A password needs only to be typed in once and then the computer will automatically remember it every time one logs on.

A domain is when more than one computer is a server. All administrators use these so that security can be controlled. This makes it much easier to do any changes as it will automatically do the changes by itself. Each time a user logs on they will need to either type in their password or any other identification otherwise they will not be permitted access.

Using a domain will enable one to get access to any computer as one will not require an account. Unfortunately not many setting changes can be made as there needs to be some sort of regularity amount all computers. This can be used on all of the above to ensure all information is kept safe and secure.
