Tips To Help You Get The Right Otterbox Case

By Cecilie Blaber

Otterbox is a company that has been manufacturing protective cases for handheld gadgets since 1998. The brand, whose name is synonymous with all round quality, offers innovative solutions for devices from most manufacturers, wireless carriers and distributors. The products are targeted towards individuals who value their smartphones and want to shield them from damage. There are four main types of cases offered by this company, which include Defender, Commuter, Impact and Reflex series.

Otterbox impact series.

The Impact Series is the simplest amongst them for basic protection, which is made of soft silicone material that leaves a smooth grip. It has a decent edge and back protection, as well as protection for power, volume and camera buttons.

Along with its cheap price, the soft silicone may not be enough for heavy situations or just crammed bags. No protection for charging port, headphone jack and rear camera.

The retail price for the Impact Series ranges between $7 and $24.

Otterbox Commuter Series

This slim but tough case is made by a combination of a polycarbonate shell that is uniquely molded and a rugged silicon cover that offers added protection against bumps, scratches and shock. It has a smooth finish that makes it easy to slide in and out of pockets. It therefore offers a better fit as compared to its cheaper counterpart, the Impact.

However, the case still lacks protection for the headphone jack, rear camera and 2D/3D button.

Price ranges from 12$-71$.

Otterbox reflex series.

Made using exceptional technology, this is an innovative case that is compact and lightweight. It readily responds to most situations; one does not have to worry when they dock or drop their phone. It also sticks out due to its stylish design and comes with a rubberized area that rebounds to original shape on impact.

Since it is split into two (top half and bottom half) which is not quite secure together at the back, sometimes the top half would slip off.

The case retails at prices ranging between $19 and $69.

Otterbox Defender Series

This casing is ideal for people who want their device to be protected all-round. It is practically close to impossible to damage a device that has a Defender on. Made of tough silicone and a polycarbonate shell that can withstand high impact, the case is bullet proof, which means that the enclosed device can only be damaged by water. All buttons (power, volume and 2D/3D) are protected, including the headset jack, charging port and rear camera. A snap-on, built-in screen protector has also been incorporated, and which does not inhibit user interaction.

Because of its outstanding protection capabilities, the Defender is heavy and thick. This especially becomes conspicuous when the holster shell is on. The Defender is quite expensive and takes some time to snap on.

This item goes for prices ranging between $18 to $89.

CONCLUSION:

The defender series is definitely the flagship of Otterbox; few others can match its capability. However, some might dislike it due to its weight and size. Nevertheless, it is ideal for people working in rough environments and for those going on excursions that would involve hiking and rock climbing. For the average user, the Commuter series would provide sufficient protection.
