Why should I purchase an Android smartphone?

By Bill Tower

Android has come a long since 2005 when Google purchased a relatively unknown company called Android Inc. During the period of ten years Google opened up the system and let anyone download, change, customize, use and share it totally free.

Freedom may be the keyword that separates Android from all the other smartphones in the market. Apple keeps a tyrannical like clutch on its iOS and Blackberry is not much different. In comparison you're free to download and install any software you would like on an Android phone. The app marketplace is not restricted by what someone within a review department believes to be admissible.

With this particular level of flexibility, software programmers are ditching Apple and embracing the liberty that developing for Android brings. Currently there are tens of thousands of applications available, many of them are even handy! For instance the default texting application is nothing to shout about on the Android nonetheless it does not need to be as there are over a dozen free applications which you can download that can replace the built in texting app. This degree of customization and choice is just not available on other smartphones where the manufacturers want to tie you down to only their applications.

Because it is less difficult for developers to produce applications and because there is more competition you will notice that many apps that you must purchase on the iPhone and Blackberry cost nothing on the Android, or at least it will have a free 'lite' version offered which means you are saving on the cost of personalizing your cell phone.

If you are anything like the common Internet user you almost certainly use several Google web services like Gmail, Gtalk, Drive and Search. Although you can use these services on other smartphones, the Android operating system has produced applications that integrate and synchronize seamlessly with your Android. For instance, say you add a brand new contact into your address book, Android is clever enough to sync your Google contacts list so if you ever misplace your phone then all of your important contact details is stored in Google's cloud services.

Protection is clearly a major aspect and with smartphone usage on the rise, counterfeiters and unlawful gangs are actively attempting to gain access to the private data individuals keep on their cell phones.. Even though you could get some good safety apps for Android you can be sure that Google has always got your back featuring its remote kill switch ability to kill any dodgy apps that may have discovered their way on to your mobile phone.

Finally there is the essential aspect of variety. With an iPhone you're tied to one device, not great if you want to express oneself. The Blackberry targets companies and the designs are far from impressing. In contrast since the Android OS is a free operating-system that can be used without royalties, many major cellular phone companies are creating Android based smartphones. You now have a choice of brand, choice of dimensions, choice of functions and most importantly find a cell phone that fits the budget.
